Instagram now lets you follow hashtags in order to view a curated selection of content about one particular subject. The new addition to Instagram will display the top performing posts and Stories associated with the specifically followed hashtag on the user’s homepage.
Marketing professionals should be aware of this new update in order to take full advantage of the ability to target specific audiences through the use of popular or creative hashtags. Specific data about hashtag following is not yet being provided by Instagram but we can expect this information to be provided in the future.
Marketing should be wary of inappropriately tagged posts, as Instagram has also added a feature which provides users with the option to “Don’t Show for This Hashtag”, which will tag content as irrelevant.
