Social Media is something that most of us use every single day, so why wouldn’t it have an entire day devoted to celebrating it!? Created by Mashable in 2010, World Social Media Day comes around every year, on June 30th. To commemorate this glorious day, we’ve compiled some of our favorite Social Media Facts! Enjoy!
There are more than 3 billion active users on social media in 2018.
That means that almost half of the world’s population is active on one or more social media platforms!
Around 6,000 tweets are sent out every second.
That adds up to around 360,000 tweets per minute, 21,600,000 per hour, or around 500 million tweets per day!
Instagram has 1 billion monthly users.
No surprise that the number is up from 800 million in September of 2017 with the booming popularity of Instagram stories!
Facebook is still #1.
Even with all the drama this year, Facebook remains the most popular social media site as of April 2018. With more than 1.4 billion, it has more than users than Instagram, Snapchat, AND Twitter combined!
It is expected that by 2021 there will be 218 million social media users in the US alone!
