As we inch closer to the end of the decade, technological advancements continue to become part of every aspect in our daily lives. It’s easy to become wary towards the quickly expanding tech world, unsure of whether to embrace or reject humanity’s reliance on modern science. For me, as a college student, being able to incorporate new and exciting tech into my life brings me joy in ways that I couldn’t imagine before recent years. One of the pieces of tech that I look forward to mastering is the 3D printer – something we have available to us right here at Texas State!
No matter what class it’s for, creating a 3D printed project will have an incredible effect on both your grade and your impression on the instructor. It may seem far-fetched for everyone to be able to create something as intricate as a 3D printed model, but in fact the lab here at Texas State makes it possible for you to be entirely clueless of the process and still make something insanely cool! Depending on the size of the project, you can choose to go in-person and be assisted by the printing experts or send in your larger projects to be printed for you.
When I heard about the 3D printing lab for the first time, my immediate thought was, “How much will it cost me?” To my pleasant surprise, the price is based on the product you use per gram, not by the amount of time it takes.
Next time you need to really blow your project out of the water, try out the 3D printing lab in the Alkek Library! Not to mention, if you continue to use it and gain experience, it can be a wonderful skill to add to your résumé.
