One of the new Technology Innovation Office’s most important roles is helping faculty get and use new technologies through the Teaching and Learning Technology Innovation Grant (TLTIG) program. Awarded grants are meant to foster excellence in undergraduate teaching through the innovative application of technology.
The grant program allows faculty who aspire to enhance their learning environments to work with TIO staff, who in turn collaborate with others on campus to assist with proposal writing, technical support, research, development, and implementation of grant proposals. Staff work with faculty throughout the process, assisting with technical details and specifications to achieve the end goal. The goal of the grant program is to make brilliant new teaching ideas a reality.
In fall 2018, Dr. John Denis, assistant professor in the School of Music, and Dr. B.J. Spencer, assistant professor of practice in the Department of Engineering and Technology were awarded grants. Dr. Denis launched multi-channel video reflection in his classroom to assist music students with self-assessment. Dr. Spencer introduced immersive mixed reality through Microsoft’s HoloLens to construction science and management students helping them visualize construction management projects in three dimensions.
More teaching and learning grants will be available in 2020.
