Social distancing means we’re all staying safe inside, but streaming technology means we don’t have to be bored! Take a break from online courses with some of these streaming services.
Streaming Film Library
University Libraries has a free streaming movie collection with feature films from well-known studios such as MGM, Miramax, United Artists, Columbia Pictures, and Dreamworks. You can watch titles like The Blind Side, Get Out, and Blade Runner 2049. Just sign in to the Streaming Library using your Net ID and password.
Academic Video Online
Any documentary fans? Texas State students, faculty, and staff also have access to a comprehensive multidisciplinary collection of 68,000 videos. It includes things like newsreels, award-winning documentaries, field recordings, interviews, lectures, training videos, and exclusive primary footage. Sign in to the collection to begin watching.
YouTube
YouTube has a very long list of free full-length feature films on its platform that span a variety of genres. Outside of movies, you can also get lost watching the millions of free user generated YouTube videos. Just be careful not to get lost in a YouTube hole for too long! One of my favorite YouTube channels is What’s Inside. They showcase cool technology and what’s inside different items from Airpods to bowling balls.
HBO
HBO is currently offering free streaming of movies and shows from HBO NOW and HBO GO in April. This gives you access to stream hundreds of HBO shows and movies including Game of Thrones, Big Little Lies, Chernobyl, and more. See a list from HBO of their available shows and series. My show recommendations are Barry and Silicon Valley.
Plex
Plex is another service that provides free streaming of movies, TV shows, news, podcasts, and web shows for your content consumption. It works on multiple devices including mobile phones, desktop, and tablets. See what Plex has to offer.
