Texas State website available in many languages through Google Translate

Google Translate is a very simple tool that does a very big job.

Texas State students, faculty, and staff – and their families and friends – can learn about everything happening at the university in their native languages thanks to an easy-to-access browser add-on. We know at Texas State there are a lot of students and families who speak various languages. Spanish is important of course, being a language spoken by many of the 96 percent of Bobcats who come from the state of Texas. But Texas State also has students from about 50 countries.

Google Translate is simple to use on most web browsers including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and both the new and older versions of Microsoft Edge. In every case, just add the Google Translate browser extension to your browser. Once you have done that you can translate two ways. First, highlight some text on a page and right click, click on Translate and then a new window will open up with a translate of the text you highlighted. Second, translate a whole page by going to a page and clicking on the Google Translate extension icon in your tool bar on the top of the page. Once you do that click “translate this page” and Google will do the rest.

Perhaps now more than ever this tool is important at Texas State. There are many new safety guidelines because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s important that everyone be able to read and understand those rules as we head into fall semester. You can learn more on the IT Assistance Center website.
