YuJa to replace Mediaflo

YuJa to replace Mediaflo

We are pleased to announce that the YuJa media platform will be replacing Mediaflo. Recently, Mediaflo was acquired by another company, which plans to discontinue the service. YuJa is expected to be available to all faculty, staff, and students in late spring/early summer.

YuJa’s rich feature set

We are excited to bring YuJa and its robust feature set to the Texas State community. Here are just a few of the enhanced features:

Recording, captioning, and editing

  • Record and upload video from a web browser, desktop app, or mobile device
  • Auto-transcribe spoken content in multiple languages with simple editing tools
  • Optical character recognition (OCR) captures content from presented material and displays in a searchable transcript
  • Built-in, easy-to-use video editing tools including saving separate video clips
  • Embed interactive videos into webpages and Canvas sites

Enhanced viewer experience

  • Interactive viewing by switching focus between video sources (speaker vs. content presented)
  • Searchable transcripts
  • Timeline specific commenting
  • Closed captions
  • Variable playback speeds
  • View and download related documents (e.g., meeting agenda or event flyer)
  • Capture and download personal viewer notes

Canvas integration

  • In video quizzes, video assignments, and recording to the gradebook
  • Video collections displaying in a specific Canvas course
  • In-course analytics specific to student viewing stats within a course
  • Assign a student grade based on percentage of video viewed
  • Canvas course copy retaining video collections and resetting in-course analytics for students in the new course

Migration of Mediaflo videos

Texas State is partnering with YuJa to migrate existing Mediaflo content, redirect Mediaflo links to YuJa, and retain embedded video content. We are in the beginning stages of the project and will update the campus community when we have specific details.

The goal with migration is to transfer only what is needed into the new system. Prepare now by looking at videos in your Mediaflo account and downloading or deleting what is no longer needed. For videos you no longer wish to display to others but wish to store, move them into OneDrive, Teams, or SharePoint for safekeeping.

Project and implementation timeline

We anticipate making YuJa available in late spring/early summer. We encourage you to plan to use YuJa at the beginning of the fall 2022 semester. The Mediaflo vendor has informed us that the service will no longer be available after September 30, 2022.

Ways to learn YuJa

In time for the YuJa go live, ITAC will provide several learning opportunities in the way of training and support. Start by visiting our YuJa support page. For the latest on the project, visit the YuJa service page. Both sites will be updated throughout the spring and summer semesters.
