Can you picture your text messages, social media feeds, or even video calls being projected in front of you instead of in your hand? This may be what’s coming with the development of augmented reality smart goggles like Magic Leap. Currently, these AR goggles are being tested on activities such as watching your favorite TV shows and movies or seeing what a new piece of furniture would look like in your house, but Magic Leap CEO, Rony Abovitz, says the technology could take over “…your phones, your televisions, your laptop, your tablet…”.
This technology could be incredibly useful in classrooms and across college campuses. Imagine being able to see an interactive map of the campus in front of you as you walk instead of having to look down at your phone or being able to view three-dimensional models in biology or engineering classes.
The Magic Leap goggles are projected to cost as much, if not more, than the newest smartphones, but are not expected to be available for at least another five years.
