As you get ready to come to school, you may be bringing some new tech with you too, which may include a new laptop. If you’re going to be bringing a new MacBook and this is your first time using MacOS, here are a few keyboard tricks to get you going more efficiently.

  1. Screenshot: You may run into some situations where you need to show someone something on your screen but they may not be around or even show a professor that you, in fact, did complete your online assignments. To take a screenshot, simply use Command + Shift + 4 to draw a box around the area you desire. To screenshot your entire screen, use Command + Shift + 3.
  2. Bold, Italicize or Underline: You’re up late night writing a paper and you really want to go to bed, but you’ve still got some proofreading to do. To save yourself some time, you can use Command + B to bold text, Command + I to italicize and Command + U to underline.
  3. Copy, Paste, Cut, Select All: Quick editing on any text is also a resourceful tool to save you a few seconds.
    1. Copy: Command + C
    2. Paste: Command + V
    3. Cut: Command + X
    4. Select All: Command + A
  4. Quick Search: This tool is something not many people think about too much, but it’s really helpful to get to apps, files or instant links to your browser. Just use Command + Spacebar from anywhere no matter what screen you’re already on.
  5. Switching Screens: The process of minimizing screens, switching through apps and different browser windows can be pretty annoying and tedious. To speed up the process, you can use Command + Tab to switch between the apps you have currently open.

Those are just a few quick tricks to make your experience on a Mac a little bit easier. Do you want to see any more or tricks for different tech? Let us know!
