Dr. Carlos Solís, Associate Vice President for Technology Innovation, traveled to Chicago to participate in the Microsoft Higher Education Customer Advisory Board meeting in October. He started serving as a board member in September 2019. The board is made up of representatives from higher education across the United States. The mission of the Board is to gain insights from leaders in the higher education community, to influence the Microsoft products and services roadmap, and to empower our educators and students to achieve more. Participation in the Microsoft Higher Education Customer Advisory Board is also an opportunity for members to network and collaborate on top-of-mind technology topics in education.
Dr. Solís presented at the meetings the results of the recently completed Technology Innovation Office project on artificial intelligence and transcription services. The presentation was met with great enthusiasm, generating extended commentary and questions, as the challenge to provision services for accessibility, and in support of alternative learning styles, is not unique at Texas State. His presentation also expanded into other areas of application for artificial intelligence in media. Dr. Solís shared information on how faculty funded projects that are part of the Teaching and Learning with Technology Innovation Grants [TLTIG] are looking at artificial intelligence as a tool to help students create effective media presentations and improve communication skills.
