A new cybersecurity training requirement

A new cybersecurity training requirement

With cybersecurity incidents becoming increasingly common and more sophisticated, it’s important to be educated on what to look out for to keep yourself and your employer safe. As a result, in 2019, the Texas Legislature passed House Bill (HB) 3834 requiring the state Department of Information Resources to develop a plan to address cybersecurity risks and incidents in Texas government and higher education.

HB 3834 requires state agency employees and certain contractors to complete approved cybersecurity awareness training each year. For Texas State University, employees will watch a series of videos delivered through LinkedIn Learning relating to cyber security and answer questions based on the content.

My hope is that everyone will find this information informative and important, not only in their professional lives, but their personal lives as well. More information will be forthcoming for faculty and staff as the training is launched.
