Texas State faculty and staff members have a great resource that offers thousands of courses and paths that you can access for free from anywhere and anytime. You may be asking yourself, “what is this tool?” Wonder no more. It is LinkedIn Learning.
I am a staff member and have been using LinkedIn Learning for quite some time and find it very helpful. Some of what I have learned includes Marketing Foundations, Writing a Marketing Plan, LastPass, and many other subjects. I can always find either a course (a single course) or a path (includes multiple courses) that will teach me what I need to know, on my schedule. It’s easy to find courses as short as 30 minutes, or longer if you have the time. Many of them have the option to turn on just the audio so listening while driving, at work, or exercising is easy.
Staff can choose when and how to learn. Faculty can include content from LinkedIn Learning to supplement curriculum objectives. Search your discipline to find content that fits your learning goals and share links easily with your students.
The LinkedIn Learning library has a wide range of courses covering topics in business, creative, and technology fields. There is a search bar at the top where you can enter your topic of interest if you aren’t sure which category it might be under. This makes finding what you are looking for very easy. Once you find a course or path that interests you, set up a weekly goal and you’ll get reminders to help you keep learning.
Here are just a few examples of what’s in the library:
• Microsoft 365 Essential Training
• Project Management Foundations
• Excel: Tracking Data Easily and Efficiently
• Writing Customer Service Emails
• Introduction to Graphic Design
• Career Advice from Some of the Biggest Names in Business
If you aren’t sure which course to start, watch this video to learn about the fastest growing skills at top companies.
The best part of LinkedIn Learning is that after completing a course you can earn certificates to show your new skills. By connecting your LinkedIn account to LinkedIn Learning you can share your certificates with your connections, the public, or even your employer. Go ahead, brag a little about your accomplishments. You’ve earned the bragging rights.
If you are teaching, content from LinkedIn Learning can be used to supplement your curriculum. With the world in constant change, there’s always one thing we can count on – our own desire to learn. You may want to learn something that will help you with your job or something that you always wanted to learn but haven’t had the time or resources. Jump into LinkedIn Learning and see what you can accomplish on your schedule.
