Tech to bring for move-in

Tech to bring for move-in

Fall 2020 is a little over a week away and being prepared is the key to success. Move-in day is an exciting time and this year will, of course, be unlike anything we have experienced before. For move-in day, students will only be allowed to bring two adult guests with them to ensure everyone has a safe experience.

Decorating your dorm and getting settled is one of the best and most exciting things about a new semester and living on campus, but don’t forget these tech essentials to make sure your experience is as comfortable as possible.

Surge protector

You can never have enough power in a dorm room. Surge protectors keep your expensive electronics safe in case of freak weather or electric outages. They are also convenient to have your electronics plugged in together, so you can turn them all off at the same time when trying to conserve energy.

Webcam and microphone

Since most classes will have an online format this semester, it’s best to make sure your professors and classmates can see and hear you properly. Check out the Texas State Bookstore to see some available webcams and mics.

Computer and ethernet cord

Many Bobcats are taking online classes this semester, so don’t forget your computer! The Texas State Bookstore is an authorized Apple retailer and has many great deals on a variety of computers if you’re looking for one. If your laptop has an ethernet port, it means you can connect directly to the internet for a stable connection, so be sure to bring one also.

Headphones

Headphones will be crucial this semester since it’s possible you and your dorm mate may have an online class at the same time. A pair of noise-canceling headphones can help you focus and be in the zone for class.

Voice Assistant

A voice assistant can come in very handy with helping everyday tasks like setting an alarm, to-do reminders, and even answering simple (or complex) questions you have throughout the day. Better yet, it doubles as a speaker so you can play all your favorite music.

We look forward to the upcoming fall semester with you, Bobcats!
