There has been a lot going on surrounding tech at Texas State University this summer. Here are some of our top tech stories, just in case you missed it.

Alkek One’s grand opening

New technology in Alkek Library showcased including computers, 3D printers, and laser printing

The first floor of the Alkek Library has been completely transformed into Alkek One. It’s meant to be a hub of technology-focused spaces that supports the maker culture. Read more on our blog post to learn more about the new spaces Alkek One has to offer:

ITAC moves to Alkek One

Along with all of the new technology presented on the first floor of the library, ITAC’s help desk has also moved to the first floor and they are ready to help with all of your tech support needs.

Enrolling in DUO

Texas State has enforced the use of DUO as a secure multi-factor authentication method, recognizing that strong passwords in combination with Duo could help keep Bobcats’ NetID credentials safe. The next time you have to change your password, you will be required to enroll in DUO. As a bonus, after you update your password and enroll in Duo, you will never have to change your password again.

Google translate extension

Whether English is your second language, or you’re learning a foreign language, downloading the google translate extension to your browser can help make the entire Texas State website available in many languages for you. To read more on it, check out this blog post.

New classroom webcams and microphones

To allow for flexible and hybrid instruction, many classrooms have been upgraded with the installation of new webcams and microphones. These upgrades will allow maximum quality for students who will be attending class via Zoom. Our blog post goes more in-depth on these devices and best practices for faculty to be prepared on how to utilize them this fall.
