Student fall technology tips

Student fall technology tips

Welcome back to the fall semester, Bobcats! As a student, you have access to many tech services and products to help you succeed. The Division of Information Technology provides Bobcats with the technologies they need for both in-person and online courses. Check out some of the services available to you this fall.

Tech services

There are many products and services available to Bobcats to help set you up for student success. Some products include the Microsoft 365 suite, which has Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and OneDrive. The best part is that you have access to these products and services for free! Start your search on the DOIT Services website.

Where’s My Course?

The majority of classes this fall will be taught using TXST Canvas learning management system, but there’s still a chance you could have a class in the old system, TRACS. Use the Where’s My Course? tool, which allows you to see all of your courses in one place and figure out which system your course uses. You can also access the tool on the TXST Mobile app!

IT Assistance Center (ITAC)

If you ever have any technical issues, can’t find the software that you need, or just unsure how to use a Texas State tool, there is always tech support from ITAC available. You can contact them via email, phone, LiveChat, or you can pay them a visit to their new home on the first floor of the Alkek Library. See ITAC’s hours and contact information.

TXST Mobile app

The Texas State Mobile app is your place to keep up with all the things going on at Texas State. It provides easy access to your courses, BobcatMail, bus routes and times, dining options and more. The app is available in the Apple App Store and in the Google Play Store. Learn more about the app and download it!

University Libraries

The first floor of Alkek Library has been completely renovated into a technological hub. There is a GeoSpace, DesignSpace, MakerSpace, Immersion Studion, and all-new YouStar Studios that include two video recording studios, two audio recording studios, and a production studio complete with soundboards and musical equipment. Learn more about Alkek One.

University Libraries also asks for your participation in efforts to keep everyone safe, such as wearing a mask and maintaining social distancing. See the University Libraries Fall 2020 Service Plan webpage for more information.

LBJ Remote Learning Hubs

If you need a place to attend your remote classes or just a place to study, the LBJ Student Center ballrooms have transformed into Remote Learning Hubs available to all Bobcats. This work area has proper social distance measures in place and is equipped with computer-installed work stations and also places with power and wired internet connectivity for those who have their own devices. Be sure to bring your own headphones. Learn more and see hours for the spaces.

Remote learning tech resources

Many students this semester are taking at least one class that meets virtually. The IT Division and ITAC support many tech services that will help you connect with classmates, faculty, and staff remotely. Check out the remote learning resources available to you.

Have a great fall semester, Bobcats!
