The Texas State eSports Club is one of the university’s fastest-growing student organizations and currently has over 600 members. At the Division of Information Technology, we’re excited to see this club’s continued growth and performance and wanted to share a little about the organization.

The club is still fairly new, being founded back in 2017, but they are made up of talented gamers. Last semester, the club’s Overwatch team was top 10 in the nation! They also competed in an invitational called Battle for Texas which had members on stage in an in-person event that was broadcasted and hosted in Dallas.

Although the club currently doesn’t meet in person, there are frequent trainings that consist of practices at least two times a week. This includes scrimmages and video-on-demand (VOD) reviews of games or tournament games to review the gameplay and find out what could have been done better. Last year, they did have a couple of events and watch parties for big tournaments and holidays. They always try to hold events for the holidays throughout the year and have everyone included with giveaways and friendly competitions. For October, there has been a lot of Halloween-themed games and movie nights.

If this sounds like a fun group to join, you might think of joining up also! To become an eSports Club member, you just have to be a Texas State student. Players need to be full-time students as well as be in good academic standing with the university. There is no rank requirement to join a team although rank is a factor that is considered.

Anybody that is interested in the club can reach out to the club’s current president, Lukas Miller, at lwm27@txstate.edu, by joining their Discord, or follow them on Twitter.

The Division of Information Technology is helping to sponsor the club through the top gear provided in their new arena located in the LBJ Student Center.

Miller said that the organization really appreciates the hardware and provided space that was donated by the Division of Information Technology. The provided space and high-performance machines will help with the team’s performances and practices. Learn more about the new space and technology inside on our previous blog post.
