The third Camp Canvas for 2020 will be an epic event full of helpful information for Texas State faculty and staff who teach using TXST Canvas.
The training event will stretch over five days in December, with Canvas Essentials courses on Friday, Dec. 11, and Monday, Dec. 14. In a Camp Canvas first, experts from Instructure, the company that makes Canvas, will lead classes for three days on Dec. 15, 16, and 17.
For those of you who haven’t taken part in Camp Canvas yet, the online event offers hours of detailed training to help you succeed using Canvas as a teaching tool. The events are organized and led by staff from the IT Assistance Center (ITAC) and the Office of Distance and Extended Learning.
In spring, we announced Camp Canvas availability on a Tuesday in late April and by Thursday all of the spots in the available classes were filled. That event in May, just after the end of the spring semester, was considered a rousing success by those who put on the courses and by those who attended.
ITAC continued to offer Canvas training throughout the summer but the second camp wasn’t until August – with seats again filling up rapidly.
We have known for a while that we wanted to do one more camp this year. This semester is the last one in which a person can use TRACS to teach an academic course. Everyone will have to use TXST Canvas beginning in January.
With the deadline looming, a third Camp Canvas is necessary. The addition of Instructure/Canvas officials teaching in-depth classes is a great bonus this time around. The December Camp Canvas should have something for everyone. A glance through the schedule reveals courses from “Getting Started with Canvas,” to in-depth topics such as assessments, collaboration, and customizable learning.
If you are a faculty or staff member who uses Canvas to teach, I can’t recommend this training highly enough. Please don’t miss out. Head to the ITAC Camp Canvas webpage and register for courses before it’s too late.
