Sometimes I feel like this blog is my confessional, so here I go again. This time, I wanted to develop an app, but the last time I wrote code was sometime in the last millennium. Might as well not have done it ever before; things have changed too much. Oh yes, and I have a job and a family. But opportunity is knocking, there is something out there that has been quietly gaining force, and I found out about it.
< Low – code > < No – code > The Tools That Democratize Innovation
Low code – no code is a modern approach to software development that eliminates the need to write code. With low code, you can build custom business applications using visual, point-and-click tools instead of hand-coding. Low code platforms enable anyone to build apps- even those with limited technical knowledge or development experience.
This approach has been gaining in strength as a toolset that will produce impact at various levels. Businesses can become more agile and efficient as a broader set of company members have at their fingertips the tools to respond to rapidly changing requirements. Likewise, these tools can accelerate innovation, as not all projects must funnel through developer teams already stressed to keep up with demands. With low code, everyone at the organization has the opportunity to create personal tools or team apps that can impact their productivity and free up cycles, creating efficiencies where we did not think it was possible.
Low code is considered a pathway to empowerment for individuals underrepresented in the IT sector and an enablement tool to accelerate new businesses and create new opportunities. The latter is part of a movement under the #upskilling. As we prepare for a series of posts for low code tools available to the Texas State community, I leave you with the story that speaks for itself.
I look forward to sharing more about my journey and seeing how yours can develop.
