Congratulations to our upcoming 2023 graduates! We are very proud of you for dedicating so much time and effort during your journey at Texas State University. It’s time to say goodbye to countless hours of studying, stressing over finals, and waking up for those early classes. Your hard work has truly paid off, and we cannot wait to celebrate you on your big day. We recognize how impressive this achievement is, and we want to make sure you are completely prepared for Commencement Day 2023.
Verify name and pronunciation
To change your name during the ceremony, you must complete the Personal Information Update Request at least one month before Commencement. The change will impact your diploma, commencement program, your reader card, and all other university documents. To confirm your name pronunciation, undergraduates can contact their Academic Advising Center and graduates can reach out to the Graduate College. While these steps are optional, these actions can be very helpful for students.
View seating chart
After viewing the Commencement 2023 schedule, it is important to be aware of where you will be sitting during Commencement. Viewing the seating chart in advance will help your guests know where to locate you during the ceremony. The online seating chart of Strahan Arena and the University Events Center contains helpful information, including the location of entrances, disabled seating, restrooms, emergency medical services, and more. The chart includes guest and graduate seating, as well.
Pack accordingly
Due to the influx of guests and graduates, attendees are encouraged to pack minimally to speed up the check-in process. All graduates will need to present a form of ID during Commencement. Texas State’s website provides a detailed list of the items you can and cannot bring into the ceremony. Graduates will not have any storage space; therefore, they must hold any small items beneath their gown. During the diploma presentation, graduates may only hold their reader card and diploma cover.
Arrive early for check-in
Graduates are encouraged to arrive at least one hour before the ceremony begins. This will leave enough time for guests and graduates to drive, park, check-in, and find seating arrangements. Guests and graduates with disabilities should arrive one and a half hours before Commencement. Graduates with disabilities should identify their needs in their graduation application and contact the Office of Disability Services for additional accommodations at least two weeks before the ceremony.
Additional Commencement Day information can be found on the TXST website or through the TXST Mobile app.
