Essential downloads for first-year students

Your first year in college can be challenging. There is much to figure out in what feels like so little time. One student to another, I know you have a lot on your plate and much to get done before you’re in the thick of it. Here are a few mobile app recommendations to make your life at Texas State easier.

Microsoft 365

As a Texas State student, you get the entire Microsoft 365 suite included with your tuition. This means you get Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and more. I recommend you take advantage of the Microsoft suite, especially since you’ll need it for your classes. To access the platform, go to Microsoft365.com and log in using your Texas State NetID email (zzz123@txstate.edu) and password. Then you can download it, and you’re all set!

OneDrive

OneDrive is also part of the Microsoft 365 suite. It’s similar to Google Drive, an online file storage service. However, instead of getting 15 GB of data storage with Google Drive, you get a whopping 5 TBs with OneDrive! OneDrive is a fantastic way to store all your files and papers without clogging up your computer’s hard drive. To access this service, visit the OneDrive homepage and log in using your Texas State email and password.

Duo Multi-Factor Authentication

By now, you’re already familiar with Duo. It’s a multi-factor authentication tool used to log in to many Texas State services, like Canvas and Microsoft 365. Duo provides an added layer of security for your logins by combining something you know (your NetID and password) with something you have (mobile app, fob, or landline) for account access. If you haven’t already done so, we strongly encourage you to download the Duo mobile app to access your accounts quickly.

TXST Mobile

You’ll find everything you need to live on campus and attend classes in TXST Mobile. The university’s official mobile app provides bus routes, news, course lists, and so much more. The map is my favorite feature. Instead of struggling with a paper map, use the TXST Mobile Campus Map for easy-to-follow walking directions, distance between buildings, and more helpful information.

Navigating a new college campus can be tricky, but with these tools, it doesn’t have to be. Have a great fall semester, Bobcats! Eat ’em up!`
