An insider’s guide to tech for faculty and staff

As a writer for the Division of Information Technology at Texas State University, I have a front-row seat to the innovative tech products and services available to faculty and staff. This insider’s guide offers a look at resources I find particularly useful — and you may, too.

You’ve got a friend in ITAC

When it comes to tech support, the IT Assistance Center (ITAC) support staff go above and beyond. I’ve relied on their expertise countless times, from Canvas support to device repairs. You can easily contact ITAC via phone, email, online chat or in-person help desks at both the San Marcos and Round Rock campuses.

Productivity and beyond

The IT Division offers a wide range of products and services. I recently took my ailing laptop to the ITAC walk-up desk on the first floor of the Alkek Library in San Marcos. For a nominal fee, the staff reimaged the device, and it now runs my favorite Microsoft 365 tools, like Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams, as well as Adobe Creative Cloud and Adobe Sign, all available to faculty and staff at no charge. Browse the IT Services web page provides a full list of offerings.

Reach for the TXST Mobile App

I can find two buildings on the San Marcos campus without a map, and only because I work in them. TXST Mobile’s map feature keeps me running ahead of schedule, and my digital TXST ID has saved me more than once. As a bonus, I can stream KTSW, check my Canvas courses, and read the latest TXST News on the go. The TXST Mobile app is worth the download.

Canvas, anyone?

For the new to Canvas and seasoned pros, ITAC offers synchronous and asynchronous training and modules to support your instructional needs. For me, ITAC’s resources have made course design much easier. When I’m choosing new materials and assignments, I always take time to consult our Accessibility Guides for useful tips on making content accessible to Bobcats of all abilities.

These are just a few of the remarkable tech resources the IT Division offers faculty and staff. For more TXST tech news, subscribe to the IT Division Blog
