The IT Division’s TXST Reporting team puts data to work for Bobcats

Serving stakeholders across the university, the TXST Reporting team collaborates with many campus units, from the Graduate College and the Office of the Registrar to Student Business Services and the Department of Athletics. The group’s primary goal is supporting success through process efficiency.

Improving processes

Based on a request for reported data, the team’s senior business process analyst surveys a stakeholder’s objectives and current processes, then designs a customized report solution to support the client’s workflow. Following this blueprint, programmer analysts create specific reports tailored to each client’s needs. Most reports are available on demand, allowing clients to access them anytime. The TXST Reporting Team is proud to have streamlined processes for the Accounting Office, provided Texas Education Association reports, and generated Texas Board of Nursing reports for our St. David’s School of Nursing. Refining some of these processes means sharing data with external sources who require specific import formatting. The team works with entities such as the Texas Education Agency, the Texas Board of Nursing, and the United States Army’s veteran education platforms to support the goals of all students.

Creating visibility

The story of each student’s Texas State journey can be told using innumerable pieces of institutional data, most of which is stored in Banner, the university’s student information system. As an example, the TXST Reporting Team may receive a request from Academic Advising to create a report of all graduation candidates with unfulfilled course requirements by the opening of registration during the year prior to graduation. The office may request each student’s current grade point average, campus activities or employment, and whether the student lives in the local area or appears to be commuting from a distance. Each student snapshot, plucked from Banner’s data constellation, becomes readily available. Advisors then can reach out and connect with students authentically, and with context, offering personalized guidance toward on-time graduation. This sort of student support demands an ability to cast a wide, but defined, net in the vast data fields populating Banner. Using expertly crafted queries, these analysts can find the proverbial needle in the haystack.

Personalizing the student experience

With its commitment to responsive reporting methods, the IT Division’s TXST Reporting Team empowers students by supporting the university’s business units with timely, specialized data. From admission and registration to finances, academics, and graduation, this team helps ensure each Bobcat’s journey is visible and successful.
