Get bite-sized tech help with TechBits

I bet you’re wondering, “What is this ‘TechBits’ you speak of?” No? Well, maybe it’s time you did! TechBits is a series of bite-sized workshops designed to help connect the Texas State campus with technology solutions that we already have at our disposal. These workshops vary in size and scope and can be designed to help streamline a process, bring a paper procedure online, or simply discuss tools we have to help maintain, create, design, or execute different tasks. Each workshop is no more than 30 minutes, but can be as short as 10 minutes, and always includes time for questions at the end. They’re designed to be casual, accessible, and (if we do say so ourselves) fun!

Now, I’m sure you’re asking yourself, or me, “Why would I want to go to that?” There are really two reasons for this: one, it’s an opportunity to take a small bite out of new (or new-to-me) technology without investing too much time in the discovery process; and two, you get to come hang out with ITAC for a bit and learn something new from your peers. Wait–that’s three. Three reasons!

On a more serious note, we know that there has been a barrage of new and new-to-me technology available to you, and you may not always know where to start when you’re looking for the right solutions. As one professor told us, “With all this new technology we’re learning about, it’s like Christmas. But it’s been like Christmas every day, and it’s getting a little overwhelming.” We’d like to help make this a little less overwhelming for you. That’s what TechBits is all about: small, digestible workshops that may help you accomplish a task, or may help someone you work with create something new. There’s no commitment, and there are no purchases necessary–just tools you already have at your fingertips. If you miss a session, don’t fret! Videos for past sessions are available here.

Speaking of commitments, if there’s a topic that you’d like to present, please let us know! The best part about TechBits is that the ideas are generated and presented by faculty and staff across the university, so the next big idea could come from you!

Grab your coffee and come join the conversation! We have an upcoming session on Friday, Feb. 4, 2022 at 11 a.m. Make sure to mark your calendar to join in on the fun every first Friday after that!
