Preparing for midterms and spring break

Preparing for midterms and spring break

As blue skies and a warm breeze flood the Texas State campus, it can become easy to fixate on your spring break plans rather than the sea of midterms coming up. However, it is important to remain focused before the break and take advantage of some essential technology available to further your success.

Stay ahead with Canvas

Instead of rushing through schoolwork while on vacation, try to avoid procrastination and complete assignments sooner rather than later. Canvas is a great tool to ensure that you have completed all upcoming assignments. I encourage you to check each class syllabus, calendar, and to-do list to guarantee you do not have anything to turn in during the break. To stay up to date on important announcements and due dates, make sure to enable Canvas notifications before the break begins!

Get organized with OneDrive

Avoid returning to campus with a cluttered desktop and overflowing emails, take the time to remove any unnecessary documents and messages before spring break. Clearing out your emails before the break can help keep information orderly and prepare you for the remaining half of the semester. OneDrive is a great tool to maintain an organized workspace and can help you navigate coursework between different classes. OneDrive is a useful resource for storing files, allowing you to access documents from anywhere on almost any device.

Back up laptop to an external hard drive

After organizing your documents and other files, it is important to back up your laptop to an external hard drive. The hard drive will collect your data and ensure that data from your laptop is always accessible. If you plan to travel over the break, ensuring your device is backed up will prevent accidental loss of important documents. The external hard drive can be helpful in transferring data between computers, as well.

Turn on “International Traveler Setting”

If you are planning to travel outside of the United States, Mexico, or Canada, then it is important to activate the International Traveler Setting located in the Online Toolkit. Enabling this setting will grant you access to Microsoft 365 tools from anywhere in the world. Before your trip, activate this setting to ensure that you remain up to date on important due dates and additional information.
