Need a new hobby for 2021? Check out Alkek One’s workshops

If your New Year’s resolution involves learning a new skill, Alkek One has you covered.  The supervisors of Alkek One’s Makerspace, Design Space, GeoSpace, Immersion Studio, and YouStar Studios are each bringing back virtual workshops for students, faculty, and staff this semester.

The online workshops began in the fall of 2020 as a way for the Alkek One team to share their knowledge in a safe and effective way during the pandemic The hour and a half workshops cover a variety of topics, ranging from video editing, 3D modeling, Geographic Information Systems and more.  This semester, there are also several new workshops, including “Learn the Magic Behind the Greenscreen,” “Visualizing Hidden Stories Behind GIS Data, and “Blender Bootcamp.”

While these topics may seem a little overwhelming to people who have never tried them before, Brittney Johnson, Alkek One’s Digital Literacy Program Coordinator, is working with instructors to make sure the workshops are easy to follow for everyone. “Our main priority in Alkek One is to ensure that everyone feels comfortable and empowered to discover and explore new technologies and learn new skills,” she says.  “The workshops that we are offering this spring do just that – no matter your experience level, we have something for you! Our instructors are excellent at breaking down the content so that it’s easy to understand and easy to get started creating.”

Each workshop has 20 virtual seats.  A limited number of in-person seats in Alkek One’s instruction space are available upon request.  Reserve your spot at www.alkekone.com/workshops.
